Rutgers will be searching for its first win ever over the Cornhuskers, as Nebraska is currently a perfect 7-0 against the Knights. The Cornhuskers are currently sitting at 5-3, 2-3 in the Big Ten, after losing their third game in a row against Washington. Rutgers is currently sitting at 2-6, 1-5 in the Big Ten after coming up short at home against Michigan. This will be the second leg of a road trip for Nebraska, as they are set to play at Illinois this weekend. They will welcome Ohio State to Lincoln a week after their matchup with the Knights.
Nebraska has been plagued with offensive issues in their three losses this season, failing to score three touchdowns in all three. Those games came against better teams than Rutgers, such as Indiana, Oregon and Washington. However, in their games against Maryland and Michigan State, two teams sitting right next to Rutgers at the bottom of the Big Ten, they have scored more than 30 points in each game.
Rutgers performance as a team for the rest of the season depends a lot on their quarterback situation going forward. Starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan missed the entire game against Michigan and almost all of Rutgers’ loss to Northwestern due to injury. The Knights sorely missed him the next two games as they only completed 12 out of 49 passes over those two games. The “strength” of Rutgers is its offense, and not having their starting quarterback severely hampers their punch. On the flip side, after the failed Dylan Raiola experiment, Nebraska has found some consistency under center with Anthony Colandrea, who has thrown for 1,825 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this season.
Rutgers upcoming game will be at Wisconsin at 4:15 and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
