Here are five key things to know about Los Angeles ahead of the Week 9 matchup:
Where things currently stand
The Texans are coming out of their bye week with a 2-5 record. Houston still occupies second place in the AFC South. They sit behind the Jaguars (5–2) but remain ahead of the Colts (2–6) and Titans (1–7).
C.J. Stroud has been playing clean football
Quarterback C.J. Stroud has 1,867 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and just one interception. He has been one of the brighter spots on an inconsistent offense that ranks in the middle of the pack in scoring (18th).
No ground game to speak of
The Texans' run game has struggled significantly, ranking 29th in the NFL with 84.7 rushing yards per game. Acquired in an offseason trade with the Lions, running back David Montgomery has averaged just 2.7 yards per carry and has missed time due to injury. Woody Marks leads the team with 271 rushing yards on 77 carries.
Declined defense
After finishing as the league's top defense a season ago, the Texans have dropped to the 19th-ranked unit in total and scoring defense. Head coach DeMeco Ryans took over defensive play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Matt Burke after a 0-4 start, though the unit is still searching for consistent form.
Still a bright spot
Despite the defensive struggles, one positive stands out on that side of the ball. Edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. is tied for the NFL lead with 7.5 sacks. According to Pro Football Focus, he holds an elite 90.8 overall defensive grade (second among qualified edge defenders) and a 90.3 run-defense grade (second at his position).
