Former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons has hit back at Kansas City Chiefs fans questioning the controversial false start call that helped decide their team’s defeat.

The Chiefs appeared to have snatched a late victory against Denver after Patrick Mahomes found the end zone in the final seconds. However, a false start penalty on Jaylon Moore wiped out the touchdown before Kansas City eventually lost 28-24.

Chiefs supporters were quick to question the decision, but Simmons has little sympathy for their complaints and believes the officials made the right call.

Justin Simmons accuses Kansas City Chiefs of benefiting from refereeing decisions

Speaking on DNVR Sports’ The Last Line with J.Simms + K. Jack, Simmons launched into a fiery response to the criticism from Kansas City fans.

He said: “I seen it all on social media and I already got beef with Chiefs fans anyway. That wasn’t a false start. They call that on us. They hate us… My rant? Y’all been cheating y’all whole time y’all had Patrick Mahomes. That’s my rant. Refs been cheating for y’all.”

Simmons also took issue with the amount of attention Mahomes receives, even when the Chiefs are not playing.

“I’m watching Sunday Night Football when I hear, ‘You know, this guy reminds me of? Number 15 in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes.’ And we’re not even watching the Chiefs. We’re watching the New York Giants versus the Dallas Cowboys. And I gotta hear about Patrick Mahomes.”

He then doubled down on his criticism of the fanbase, insisting the penalty was justified.

“My rant is at the Chiefs fans that are delusional enough to think that that was not a false start. It was. Y’all lost. And y’all lost at the one-yard line. Ha!”

The controversy centred on Moore moving his right foot after turning his head to look at Mahomes. A Broncos linebacker pointed out the movement, and officials ruled it a false start.

Head coach Andy Reid disagreed with the decision, while Mahomes admitted he had not seen the replay but accepted the officials’ call.

However, Simmons and former Broncos teammate Kareem Jackson have both defended the referees. For Kansas City, the missed opportunity proved costly, with Malcolm Roach sacking Mahomes on the ensuing fourth-down attempt to seal Denver’s 28-24 win.
