“Certainly deserving of it,” the 50-year-old McDaniels told the media on Thursday, via Mark Daniels of MassLive. “A lot of credit to him for improving.”
Maye was picked off a total of six times during the Patriots’ 1-2 start to the campaign, but did not let that set the tone for him in October. Last month, he threw for a total of 1,199 passing yards and 12 touchdowns against only two interceptions, while completing 67.2 percent of his throws.
The offensive line also helped Maye a lot, as he was sacked just four times for a loss of 21 yards over the same stretch. In addition, Maye had 129 rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns on 23 carries across four games against the Buffalo Bills, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Jets and Chicago Bears. Of those games, the Patriots only lost the meeting with Caleb Williams and the Bears in Week 7 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Maye and the 5-3 Patriots will look to keep it going on Sunday, when they play a prime-time game against Jordan Love and the visiting Green Bay Packers at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
