RB Leipzig vs. Augsburg preview: Hosts aiming to maintain perfect home record

RB Leipzig
Leipzig are currently sitting in fourth place after winning five, drawing one and losing two of their eight Bundesliga games. Martín Demichelis’s side have claimed back-to-back league wins since losing 6-1 away to Bayern Munich last month. Die Roten Bullen cruised to a 4-0 home win over Elversberg before they claimed a 2-0 away victory against Schalke 04 last weekend.

Unfortunately for Leipzig, they were unable to take anything from their Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester City, despite coming from behind on a couple of occasions at the Red Bull Arena. Ridle Baku struck in the early stages of the second period to cancel out a first-half own goal, before Antonio Nusa responded to Enzo Fernández’s effort. However, Leipzig could not find a response to Erling Haaland’s 78th-minute goal, as they fell to their third defeat of the Champions League campaign.
While they lost 3-2 in front of their supporters in midweek, Leipzig will head into Saturday’s fixture with the only perfect home record in the division. They are also the only team yet to concede a home league goal, having won their four Bundesliga home games by a combined 18-0 scoreline.
They will certainly fancy their chances of picking up another win on Saturday, considering they have won each of their previous seven meetings with Augsburg at the Red Bull Arena.
Team News
Leipzig remain without the services of Assan Ouédraogo and Marc Guiu, while Max Finkgräfe is a major doubt after missing the defeat to Man City. Nusa was forced off against Enzo Maresca’s side and will need to be assessed ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

Augsburg
Augsburg are in 10th position and two points above the bottom three after winning two, drawing three and losing three of their eight matches this season. The Fuggerstädter have gone six consecutive games without a win since starting the Bundesliga campaign with back-to-back victories.
Michael Gregoritsch scored the opener in last weekend’s clash against his former club Freiburg, but it ultimately counted for very little as Augsburg conceded twice in the second half as they fell to a 2-1 loss at WWK Arena.
After losing on home turf, Manuel Baum’s side will now head on their travels with the primary objective of avoiding a third consecutive away loss. The Fuggerstädter shipped seven goals across their last two away defeats against Werder Bremen and Elversberg, highlighting a key area for improvement if they are to take anything from Sunday’s contest.
Their hopes of a positive result will be tempered by the fact they have only taken one point from their previous 10 Bundesliga away meetings with RB Leipzig, which means they are still searching for their first top-flight victory at the Red Bull Arena.
Team News
Baum is unable to call upon the services of Juma Bah, Calvin Brackelmann, Noahkai Banks and Steve Mounié. Meanwhile, Tim Breithaupt is back in training and pushing to make a matchday squad for the first time this season.
