FAIRLESS HILLS — After what happened Saturday afternoon, you'd never imagine that these same two teams played a tight game just eight days before.

What happened Saturday was that Archbishop Wood, from start to finish, dominated Archbishop Carroll on the way to a 31-6 win in the Philadelphia Catholic League Class 3A championship game played at Dick Bedesem Field at Conwell-Egan.

Last Friday, in the regular-season finale for both, Wood slipped past the Patriots 19-15.

"We were ready to go and knew if we played well we could beat them again," Wood two-way lineman Bradan McNicholas said.

"We knew what we were up against because we just played them and we were the mentally stronger team."

The title was the first championship for the Vikings since the 2019 team won the school's sixth PIAA Class 5A crown.

"I'm just happy for the kids," Wood second-year head coach Brian Goettner said. "They've worked really hard and they want to keep their season going."

The win moved the Vikings (8-3) into next Saturday's PIAA District 12 Class 3A title game against the Audenreid-Bartram winner at the South Philadelphia Supersite at a time to be determined.

As usual, senior running back D'Andre Webb was a big part of the win for the Vikings as he eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark for the third time in the last five games.

On Saturday, he rushed for 264 yards (on 31 carries) and scored three rushing touchdowns.

The TDs were on runs of 26, 46 and 27 yards. The last one came on Wood's opening drive of the second half and pushed the Vikings lead to an insurmountable 21-0.

"The offensive line did a great job opening up the holes," Webb said. "Those guys have been great all year and they deserve a lot of credit.

"We just want to try and make a run (in the playoffs) and go as far as we can."
