NEW YORK — SNY, the TV home of the Mets, underwent mass layoffs and canceled two of its flagship studio shows Friday in a sudden shift that rocked the sports journalism industry.

Many of the layoffs targeted SNY’s editorial staff, according to The Athletic.

As of Friday afternoon, the SNY website no longer featured web articles about the Mets or other local teams. Instead, the SNY.TV landing page promoted the network with multiple “Watch Now” tabs.

The regional sports network — officially named SportsNet New York — will no longer air the daily highlights program “SportsNite” or the MLB-driven panel show “Baseball Night in New York.”

SNY will continue to air Mets and Jets pregame and postgame shows, as well as “Mets Hot Stove” and a simulcast of Chris Carton and Chris McMonigle’s WFAN radio show, according to The Athletic.

“As part of our regular review of our business, operations and programming, SNY has decided to cease broadcasting Baseball Night in New York and SportsNite,” SNY said in a statement.

“We are grateful to those team members that helped bring these programs to fans for many years. Ongoing coverage of the Mets and New York sports are at the heart of SNY’s business, and we remain focused on continuing to deliver high-quality content to our passionate fans.”

Sal Licata and Eamon McAnaney were among those Friday to confirm they were included in the layoffs.

Launched in 2006, SNY is controlled by the Wilpon family — which sold the Mets to Steve Cohen in 2020 — and the Katz family. SNY reportedly explored a sale more than a year ago, but one has not come to fruition.
