Commanders land elite prospect in Field Yates' two-round mock draft
· Yahoo Sports
The Washington Commanders have been active during the offseason, spending frugally but addressing roster and depth needs. They've also been evaluating prospective draft picks at the 2026 NFL Combine, hosting players for visits and workouts, and pro days, which recently began. The Commanders still have several needs and plenty of cap space.

It's unlikely we'll see much more spending from the Commanders until after the 2026 NFL Draft in April. They don't have a ton of picks (six), and don't have any picks in the second or fourth rounds. That said, ESPN's Field Yates released a two-round mock draft, and he thinks GM Adam Peters will select an offensive skill player with the No. 7 overall pick.
Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame
I'd argue the floor of Love would be at No. 7, as this would be a home run move for the Commanders with their only pick of the first two rounds. While the team signed veterans Rachaad White and Jerome Ford in free agency, make no mistake that the RB room has more than enough room for Love. Seventh-round pick Jacory Croskey-Merritt is Washington's only returning RB from 2025, when he recorded 805 rushing yards (team high) and just 68 receiving yards.
Love is the most dynamic offensive player in this class, running a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the combine and averaging 10.4 yards per catch in 2025. He would immediately alleviate pressure on quarterback Jayden Daniels, also adding value as a pass protector.
Now, Yates also has Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs already gone when the Commanders make their pick, along with Arvell Reese, David Bailey, and Carnell Tate. Jeremiyah Love is arguably the most talented player in this draft, but will Washington go with a running back with other pressing needs?
But who knows, maybe the Commanders decide they simply can't pass on a talent like Love, which would be entirely understandable. Without a second-round pick, their first-round pick has to be a player who can make an immediate impact. Love fulfills that requirement.
