Tennessee basketball power forward plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

A member of Tennessee's 2025-2026 basketball team entered the NCAA transfer portal. Vols' power forward Jaylen Carey declared his entry into the portal, according to Joe Tipton of On3.

The 6-foot-8, 267-pounder began his college basketball career at James Madison in 2023. He appeared in 36 games and averaged 7.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game with the Dukes.
Carey followed head coach Mark Byington from James Madison to Vanderbilt in the 2024 offseason. He averaged 8.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in 33 games with the Commodores.
Carey transferred from Vanderbilt to Tennessee in the 2025 offseason. He averaged 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in his lone season with the Vols.
Three players from Tennessee's 2025-2026 roster are graduating: point guard Ja'Kobi Gillespie, shooting guard Amaree Abram and center Felix Okpara. Tennessee has three commitments in its 2026 basketball recruiting class: small forward Ralph Scott, power forward Manny Green and point guard Marquis Clark.
Four other members of Tennessee's 2025-2026 basketball roster have decided to enter the portal: power forward Cade Phillips, combo guard Clarence Massamba, power forward J.P. Estrella and combo guard Bishop Boswell. Former Belmont shooting guard Tyler Lundblade committed to the Vols on April 1.
