Boston Red Sox starter Brayan Bello

The Boston Red Sox are sending 27-year-old starter Brayan Bello down to Triple-A.

Bello has been brutal in the starting rotation so far this season. After allowing eight earned runs on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles, Boston is opting to make a move. Dan Roche of WBZ broke the news on Thursday night.

"Brayan Bello was optioned to the Triple-A WooSox after today’s Red Sox loss to the Orioles - sources tell WBZ," Roche wrote.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com confirmed the news.

"Red Sox optioned Brayan Bello to Triple A after his poor start, source confirms. [Dan Roche] first," Cotillo wrote.

It's been a very weird season for Bello. He has made four appearances behind an opener and has a 0.71 ERA in 25 1/3 innings pitched. But he just hasn't had it when actually starting games so far this season.

After his start on Thursday, unsurprisingly, he wasn't pleased and wanted the conversation about starting or an opener to stop.

"Just stop talking about bullpen and starting games. I’ve always been a starter," Bello said through a translator, as transcribed by MassLive.com's Christopher Smith. And when I’ve been successful as a starter, nobody has questioned whether I have to be in the bullpen or starting games. So starting from there, just stop that talk because I’m just having a bad season. That’s it. It’s not whether I’m a starter or I’m a reliever. I’m just having a bad season. But I know I can turn it around. I always have. And I think I will.”

It's unfortunate how things have gone so far this season, but now he'll have a chance to get back on track with less pressure.
