Clemson lands lower than expected in ESPN’s updated 2027 recruiting rankings
· Yahoo Sports
Clemsonfootball’s busy official visit season comes to a close this weekend, but the Tigers still have several recruiting battles unresolved that could have an impact on the 2027 class in the coming weeks.
Even after a productive month on the recruiting trail, Clemson moved down eight spots to No. 14 in ESPN’s latest team recruiting rankings. The Tigers have been one of the hotter programs on the trail recently, making the drop somewhat surprising as Dabo Swinney’s staff continues to add talent across the board.

ESPN pointed to the overall balance of Clemson’s class, highlighting the Tigers’ efforts to add talent at key positions while continuing to build depth in the trenches. Quarterback Kharim Hughley headlines the offensive group, while prospects such as Gary Walker, Jamarin Simmons and Trey Wimbley give Clemson several skill-position playmakers. Along the line, J.J. Brown remains one of the foundation pieces of the class.
Defensively, ESPN noted the athleticism and upside Clemson has added with players like Desmond Malpress, Bryce Kish and Luke Starcevic. The group reflects the staff’s continued emphasis on length, versatility and developmental potential on that side of the ball.
While ESPN currently places Clemson at No. 14 nationally, other services are slightly higher on the Tigers’ haul. Clemson checks in at No. 15 in the Rivals Industry Composite and No. 11 in the 247Sports Team Composite rankings.
