Romano confirms Real Madrid could sanction defender’s exit amid Arsenal links

Arsenal’s search for defensive reinforcements could take another intriguing twist after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Real Madrid are open to the possibility of Raúl Asencio leaving the club this summer.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been linked with the Gunners, who continue to assess their defensive options following William Saliba’s injury setback. While there is no indication that Arsenal have made a formal approach, Romano’s latest update suggests a deal may now be possible if the right proposal arrives.

Romano reveals Madrid are open to Asencio departure

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have been planning for the possibility of Asencio’s departure since June, with the defender’s future now dependent on both the offers received and the player’s own decision.

Romano posted on X:

The transfer expert also explained that a permanent transfer or a loan could be considered, while stressing that Real Madrid’s doors are open should an acceptable proposal arrive.

Reports elsewhere have suggested Los Blancos would be prepared to listen to offers in the region of €50 million, with increased competition for places following the arrival of Ibrahima Konaté and Antonio Rüdiger’s contract renewal.

Could Arsenal make their move?

Asencio has enjoyed a rapid rise since breaking into Real Madrid’s first team and is regarded as one of Spain’s brightest young central defenders.

Saliba’s injury has inevitably increased speculation over whether another centre-back could arrive before the transfer window closes.

The Spaniard would certainly fit the profile of a player with significant long-term potential, although reports have also indicated that his preference has been to remain at Real Madrid and fight for his place despite interest from several top European clubs.

For now, there is no suggestion that Arsenal are in advanced negotiations, but Romano’s latest update does make Asencio a player worth keeping an eye on over the coming weeks as the summer window enters its decisive phase.
