Dylan Cease Continues to Move Up History Books in First Blue Jays Season

Playing a makeup game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays lost 3-2, falling to 54-62 as a result.

Despite the loss, the Blue Jays got a great performance on the mound from Dylan Cease, who gave up no earned runs on two hits and one walk through seven brilliant innings. He struck out 10, lowering his ERA to 2.28 ERA for the season.
The Cubs scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to spoil his victory, and then won it in the 11th with a walkoff for the 3-2 win.
With his gem, Cease now has the fourth-lowest ERA for a single-season in team history among pitchers who have thrown at least 120 innings.
As noted by StatsCentre, Cease trails only Mark Eichhorn (1.72), Roger Clements (2.05) and Alek Manoah (2.24). Manoah's year came in 2022 while Eichhorn's was in 1986 and Clemens's was in 1997.

The 30-year-old Cease now has 184 strikeouts in just 126.1 innings, meaning he's on the verge of a sixth consecutive season with 200 strikeouts or more. He's 7-5 with a WHIP of 1.04. He leads the American League in strikeouts, hits/9, home runs allowed/9 and strikeouts/9.
He was signed to a seven-year deal worth $210 million in the offseason. The Blue Jays are hoping to replicate his success in the recently-acquired Jose Soriano. As we've written about before, it's evident that the Jays have a profile that they believe in.
The Jays will take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday at 6:40 p.m. ET at Citizens Bank Park.

As noted by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Yesavage has an issue in his meniscus and will go visit a specialist. Manager John Schneider says that any time you go visit a specialist, surgery is a potential outcome, but the team is hoping to avoid that. Yesavage went on the injured list on Wednesday with the knee issue.
He's 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA, having thrown 93.2 innings. He's struck out 91 batters, and this is the second trip to the injured list for him in this campaign.
