Greg Dortch impressing in camp as potential fourth Lions receiver

The Detroit Lions have had a long history of excellent wide receiver groups. Going back to my childhood days of Herman Moore, Brett Perriman, and Johnnie Morton. More recently with Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson. And then with Megatron and Golden Tate.
And how about Charles Rogers, Roy Williams, and Mike Williams? OK, that one didn't work out so well.

Currently, the Lions are looking great with the wide receiver trio of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa. It's one of the best trios in the NFL right now.
But the wide receiver room goes beyond just the top three. The No. 4 wide receiver is still a key player on the team, even if we are well past the Mouse Davis run-and-shoot era. The No. 4 guy needs to be able to step in at a moment's notice if any of top three above him gets hurt.
For the Lions in 2026, Greg Dortch might be the leading candidate as the Lions' fourth receiver. Many reports have him looking great in training camp practices.
Recently, Dortch spoke to media after a training camp practice.
"Having (Petzing) here makes things comfortable for me. I'm able to play faster.
"Anytime I can come out here and just help the team, however that is, whether it's punt return, kick return or jumping in the slot, outside, whatever I can do, man, to help the team win, that's what I want to do. It's been fun, man," Dortch said.
Dortch caught 80 passes for nearly 900 yards and eight touchdowns the last three years in Petzing's offense.
Dortch's history with Petzing gives him an advantage, as he has familiarity with the offense. Dortch's versatility with all the receiver positions allows him to fill in where needed. Dortch's ability to return kicks will be valuable on special teams. Experience and versatility are good traits to have for a No. 4 wide receiver.
The Lions' wide receiver room is one of the youngest and healthiest position groups on the entire team. Hopefully, it stays that way all year. But, if any injuries occur to the top three wideouts, Dortch looks like he is ready keep the offense humming.
