Hall of Famer defends Sixers star Jaylen Brown from MVP voters

Philadelphia 76ers star Jaylen Brown had one helluva season in 2025-26 with the Boston Celtics as he threw the franchise on his back. In what was supposed to be a "gap year" for the franchise when considering the Jayson Tatum injury, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists to lead Boston to a 56-26 record and the No. 2 seed in the East.
Despite the work on the floor, Brown didn't get much love from MVP voters. He finished sixth in the race as Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took home the award for the second straight season. That didn't sit well with Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady.

McGrady stated this on Brown:
I don't like some of the things that happened with JB. Shading him from things that he actually earned. Like if you look at--if anybody would have put up those type of numbers last year under the circumstances with Boston. With JT being out and no expectations for them to do anything in the Eastern Conference, they would have won second, runner-up, or MVP, averaging 28 points and being second in the East, like to place him, what, fourth or fifth? Is so disrespectful and just nasty work.

Brown will look to fit in nicely in Philadelphia as he begins a new chapter of his career. After viewing the Sixers as a rival for so long, the 10-year veteran will now look to help the franchise get over the hump in the East and end some long droughts in its history.
