The Bisons broke open a game that was scoreless at halftime by scoring twice in the opening 2 minutes, 10 seconds in the third quarter, and then made one big defensive play after another in a 14-6 victory over visiting Bishop McCort Catholic.
The nearly three-hour season-opener provided Bedford an opportunity to showcase its artificial turf stadium, which was part of a schoolwide $48 million upgrade that included years of planning and construction. Bedford’s field also featured modern lighting and a massive video board and scoreboard.

Bisons junior quarterback Gabe Taylor found junior receiver Grey Livengood open across the middle of the field on the first play of the second half.
Livengood caught the pass and outraced defenders to complete a 65-yard touchdown 10 seconds into the third quarter.
Taylor ran the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
Two plays later, Bedford sophomore lineman Carter Frederick pounced on a fumble at the Bishop McCort 34-yard line after the Crimson Crushers had a low snap to senior quarterback Bentley Bainey.
Sophomore running back Zachary Eichelberger gave the Bisons a 14-0 advantage at 9:50 via his 22-yard touchdown run.

The extra-point attempt failed.
Bedford’s defense forced four turnovers (two fumbles, two interceptions). The Bisons stopped the Crushers on downs four times and halted three drives that resulted in punts.
The Bisons thwarted McCort fourth-down plays that started at the Bedford 24, 28, 38 and 13 yard-line. The Crimson Crushers also had a potential touchdown pass dropped in the end zone in the final quarter.
Bishop McCort senior receiver Breylond Wiley scored his team’s lone touchdown on an 8-yard pass from Bainey with 2:10 remaining in the game that didn’t finish until almost 10:30 p.m.
Bedford’s Taylor carried 20 times for 78 rushing yards. The mobile quarterback completed 3 of 8 passes for 74 yards.
Bisons junior Jamey Ringler and Eichelberger each intercepted a pass in the first half.
Frederick and freshman James Ingraham each recovered fumbles in the second half.
Already up by two scores, Bedford nearly delivered a figurative knockout blow late in the third quarter, as Ingraham’s fumble recovery set up a drive at the Crushers 33-yard line.
Bedford used five runs and a short pass to advance to the Bishop McCort Catholic 5-yard line. But two high snaps led to losses of 10 and 7 yards, and the Bisons couldn’t convert on fourth-and-goal from the 22 after a Crushers sack.
Bishop McCort’s Bainey completed 14 of 34 passes for 143 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Senior Marquez Gordon rushed for 47 of his 50 yards in the opening half.
Bishop McCort Catholic will host Bellwood-Antis at Sargent’s Stadium in Week 2. Bedford will travel to Clearfield.
