CLEMSON, SC(WSPA)-Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney announced Tuesday that Chris Vizzina will get the nod as the starting quarterback in Saturday night's opener at LSU.

Vizzina had "the pole position" entering fall camp, Swinney said then, and beat out true freshman Tait Reynolds to earn the job.

The head coach emphasized Tuesday that "it's not like we're saying he's going to start all 12 games," referencing that Reynolds, like previous true freshman quarterbacks in the program, such as Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence, could have the chance to see significant playing time.

There is not a specific "Reynolds package," Swinney noted Tuesday.

Vizzina's only significant playing time came in his lone career start last season against SMU, when he threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns on 29-42 passing without an interception in a close loss.
