UNLV football unveils incredible retro homecoming helmets
· Yahoo Sports
UNLV has the unfortunate honor of currently owning the young college football season’s toughest loss to this point but there are plenty of reasons for the Rebels to look forward to the future. Absolute sick helmets for homecoming is among them.
The school unveiled the special lids on X and received near-universal approval for their sleek design. They are an homage to the past as they look the same as the helmets worn by the program 50 years ago. An undefeated 1970s-style font at a unique angle takes these to the next level and if they were an option on a video game every single player would outfit their digital players with this helmet. They just would!

After suffering a 27-21 heartbreak to Memphis last Saturday, UNLV will turn its attention to a fight for the Mountain West crown by traveling out to Hawaii for a late-night matchup this week. That’s part of a three-game road trip before they return home to take on California on Oct. Homecoming, which will usher in these helmets, is a week later in the form of an Oct. 10 tilt with North Dakota State.

The Rebels have made a ton of progress since they last wore these caps five decades ago, as evidenced by their strong 10-4 campaign in 2025. UNLV took a tough loss in the conference championship game to Boise State and fell to Ohio in the Frisco Bowl, preventing them from eclipsing their program record of 11 wins.
Just as an aside, there was a time when all of these different looks from college football teams felt tiresome and a like a ploy to sell more merch. But a strange thing has happened with aging in that I am back in for all the different uniform subsets. We’re in an attention economy and anything that can be done to capture eyeballs is probably a smart play, so keep ’em coming.
