Rising sophomore QB Ty Snell has near-perfect night in win over DeSoto (TX)

Following an impressive season-opening win over Duncanville (TX) to open the season, Allen (TX) made a case to be called the best high school football team in Texas early in the season.

That resume only got stronger Friday night, Sept. 4.

Led by a near-perfect night from rising sophomore quarterback Ty Snell, the No. 16 Eagles shocked the country with a dominant 50-6 win over DeSoto.

Snell's stat line may not pop off of the sheet like others, but he was about as efficient as any quarterback could be in the win, completing six of his seven pass attempts for 169 yards and four touchdowns. Of those four touchdown passes, three went to fellow sophomore Zach Williams, who caught four passes for 99 yards.

Friday night's meeting between the team was the sixth between the two programs. Allen leads the series 5-1. The Kyler Murray era at Allen saw the Eagles win the postseason meetings between the schools between 2012-2014 and they added another win in 2015.

Now Allen may have its best quarterback prospect since Murray was running the show over a decade ago.

247Sports ranks Snell as the No. 30 player in the 2029 class, the No. 2 quarterback prospect and the No. 6 player out of Texas. Snell transferred to Allen ahead of his freshman season from Lipscomb Academy (TN) and split time with then senior Jeremiah Daoud last season under center.

Snell finished his freshman season with 1,030 yards and 10 touchdowns, completing 68% of his passes. This season he's completed 71% of his passes for 332 yards and six touchdowns.

As good as Snell has been this season, Allen's defense has been equally impressive.

After shutting down Duncanville's attack to open the year, the Eagles were even better against a DeSoto side that entered the season nationally-ranked. DeSoto did not find the end zone until there was just 3:18 remaining in the game and even when they scored, Allen's defense stopped the two-point conversion.

Allen will look to continue its winning streak next Friday during its first road trip as the Eagles travel to Southlake Carroll (TX). DeSoto hosts Duncanville on Saturday looking for its first win of the season.
