The Milwaukee Brewers were knocking on October’s door heading into Friday. They did just that in commanding fashion against the Cincinatti Reds.
Not only did Milwaukee clinch a playoff berth, but they also did so by trouncing the Reds 20-0 at home, per Bob Nightingale of USA Today. They are on a four-game winning streak. Not only that, but their magic number is four games to win the National League Central Division.
“Hello October, it’s the Brewers again! The Milwaukee Brewers clinch a playoff berth for the 8th time in the last 9 seasons, routing the Cincinnati Reds, 20-0,” Nightingale posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Their magic number drops to 4 to win their fourth consecutive NL Central title.”

In the second inning, Milwaukee tacked on 6 runs. Later in the 5th inning, they added 8 runs to increase their lead to 17-0. Catcher William Contreas went 2-for-5 with a home run and 6 RBIs. Second baseman Brice Turang was 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs. Third baseman Joey Ortiz went 4-for-5.
Starting pitcher Dustin May pitched 6 innings and came away with 6 strikeouts.
Now, the Brewers are well on their way to winning their fourth straight division title. They hold a 10-game lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs with a record of 92-56. Some are expecting Milwaukee to dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers as World Series champions.
Last year, the Brewers made it all the way to the ALCS. They lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in a dramatic seven-game series.
Milwaukee will close out the series against the Reds on Sunday.
