So, my underperforming home DVR can't handle my weekend needs, forcing me to make some difficult choices.
You see, you can only record four shows at the same time. I was promised more than that, which would have helped my taping problem.
And I have been told nicely by my wife that I can't use all the slots. Totally reasonable .
I've come up with a system to make it all work at my house. Each week, I grade the games: Must See, Could be a Classic and Watch the Highlights.
For this weekend, the first choice was obvious: LSU at Mississippi, the Lane Kiffin Hate-In. The ratings for the 6:30 p.m. barnburner on ABC figure to be through the roof of Kiffin's ego. Very high.
My choice for Could be a Classic would have been No. 22 Houston at No. 13 Texas Tech, but the game was played on Friday.
The new runner-up: No. 15 SMU at No. 23 Louisville (2:30 ESPN2).
It serves as a College Football Playoff elimination game for the Cardinals, who have already lost to Mississippi. Beat the undefeated Mustangs and Jeff Brohm's team is back in the playoff hunt.
One more that will make the cut: Florida at Auburn, A matchup of former Illinois assistant coaches, Greg McMahon (Gators) and Alex Golesh (Tigers). Neither team is ranked, but the winner will be close.
Isn't this fun? Might be easier to get a second DVR but that isn't going to happen. Oh, well.
