Commanders WR Stefon Diggs fined for costly goalpost celebration vs. Eagles

Commanders receiver Stefon Diggs was fined for a post-touchdown celebration where he score and then jumped onto the goalpost padding.

Per The Athletic’s Nick Jhabvala, Diggs was fined $14,926 for the infraction, which drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

In stead of explaining, it looked like this.

It was a major mistake. The Commanders were down by two points at that relatively early point in the fourth quarter, and the penalty erased the prospect of going for a 2-point conversion. Afterward head coach Dan Quinn said the Commanders would’ve gone for two had Diggs not drawn a flag.

The Commanders kicked an extra point there, gave up a touchdown and ended up trailing by eight points again. They scored a late touchdown, but failed at their pressure-packed 2-point conversion at the end of the game and ultimately lost 24-22 to Philadelphia.

Diggs was accountable for the mistake in the aftermath, realizing the gravity of his mistake, which cost him some money, too.
