Jacksonville and Piedmont go 1-1 in Calhoun County volleyball tournament

WELLBORN — Fifth-seeded Jacksonville went 1-1 in the Calhoun County volleyball tournament Saturday, sweeping 12th-seeded Saks 25-15, 25-8, 25-19 in the first round before fourth-seeded Pleasant Valley eliminated the Golden Eagles in the quarterfinals, 25-17, 17-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-13.

For the tournament, Layna Wise led Jacksonville with 21 kills, while also adding four aces, two blocks and one assist. Addie Tidwell added 16 kills, three aces, eight blocks and one dig. Ana Strain had seven kills, two aces and one dig.
Abigaila McNeal contributed five kills and seven blocks, while Emma Herbert added three kills and eight blocks.
Caroline Christopher finished with two kills and two digs. Alysaa Barnes had four digs, one kill and one assist. Hailey Roszel served three aces.
Calleigh Walker passed out 57 assists and finished the day with three aces, three kills and two digs. Zion Smith added four kills and two blocks against Pleasant Valley.
Piedmont
Eighth-seeded Piedmont opened tournament play with a first-round sweep of ninth-seeded Ohatchee. The Bulldogs defeated the Indians 25-20, 25-10, 25-16.
Piedmont was eliminated by top-seeded Alexandria in the quarterfinals, falling in three sets, 25-17, 25-17, 25-7.
For the day, Skylea Kirk passed out 43 assists and served seven aces. Emma Proctor led the Bulldogs with 22 kills, while also adding two blocks and two aces. Amiyah Thomas downed 11 kills and served two aces.
Ellie Tolbert finished with 10 kills, four aces and two blocks. Na'Kiya Bothwell added five kills, five blocks and two aces. Anna Hase chipped in with one kill, one ace and two assists.
