What happened in the Bills loss to Patriots?

Time and time again on Sunday, Buffalo’s defense came up short in its matchup with Drake Maye and the struggling Patriots’ offense, which came into the game having scored 29 points on 30 possessions but was able to equal that output in a 29-26 victory.

Maxwell Hairston was easily the worst defender on the field on Sunday, allowing Romeo Dobbs to come away with two touchdown catches, and Josh Allen made a terrible decision with the Bills potentially driving for the tying score late, throwing an ill-advised pass into double coverage that was picked off. The game then ended when Buffalo’s defense couldn’t come up with a stop on the ensuing possession.

We recap the first loss of the Joe Brady era, discuss what has gone so horribly wrong for Buffalo’s secondary, reflect on what defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard can do to shake up his struggling defense and offer up observations and key takeaways as the Bills drop a home game they had every right to win.
