The 23-year-old scored during the 2-0 win over Serbia, and captained Germany during a goalless draw with Greece at the weekend. Despite the stalemate, Wirtz caught the eye as Germany dominated the ball, completing four dribbles and creating three chances.

Wirtz's club form has been heavily scrutinised this season, as he has struggled to impactPremier League games for the Reds.

Speaking this weekend, Klopp said Wirtz is most valuable when he's free to drift into half-spaces between lines.

"We have to see: Where is he most valuable to us? And that's safe in the half-rooms. That's not a question,"Klopp said.

"Of course, he can also play on the wing, for example in a 4‐3‐3. But as soon as we have the ball, it should come back to the half-rooms. This is certainly his comfort zone."

"At Leverkusen, it worked sensationally. He doesn't have the game in his back, but not only in front of him, but stands on the side and can react immediately."

"Due to the composition, it may be very flexible. But when you play against a deep block, certain positions must already be occupied. For Flo, the half-left space would be the perfect position. At the goal he was then in the centre - and that's where he belongs."
