Matt LaFleur blasts Green Bay Packers after costly fumbles: “They’re gonna be sitting on the bench”

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers escaped with a 17-14 road victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, but the result did not erase the concerns surrounding their performance. Head coach Matt LaFleur once again saw his team struggle with turnovers, making it clear that the Packers must find a way to eliminate those costly mistakes.

The Packers gave the ball away twice in the fourth quarter, leaving LaFleur clearly frustrated. He did not mince words when addressing the issue afterward, offering a harsh response to the repeated errors.

“I think a great teacher’s the bench. If guys don’t start holding onto the ball, they’re gonna be sitting on the bench,” stressed the Packers head coach.

Green Bay had a chance to create some breathing room late, but costly mistakes kept the Buccaneers within reach. MarShawn Lloyd lost possession following a 16-yard reception, although the fumble rolled out of bounds.

Only three plays later, Kaleb Johnson gave the ball away on first and goal from the Tampa Bay 3-yard line. Tykee Smith forced the fumble, with A’Shawn Robinson recovering at the 4.

Matt LaFleur’s Packers keep on fumbling

The Packers were in position to create some separation, but a turnover brought the promising opportunity to an abrupt end. Their next trip down the field produced nothing, leaving the offense unable to add to the lead.

Ball security has become a major problem for Matt LaFleur’s team, which now has more fumbles than any other NFL team this season. The Packers have also struggled with other areas of discipline, leading the league in both dropped passes and penalties. That issue was on full display against Tampa Bay, as Green Bay was flagged 10 times during the game.

Green Bay’s turnover issues are even more concerning because of the uncertainty surrounding its running back group. Josh Jacobs remains on the commissioner’s exempt list, while Chris Brooks was forced to leave Sunday’s matchup after suffering an ankle injury.

The victory moved the Packers to 2-2 on the season, setting up a divisional matchup with the Chicago Bears next Sunday.
