The Los Angeles Dodgers are up 3-0 over the Atlanta Braves in Game 3 of the NLDS through four innings. L.A. took the lead thanks to back-to-back home run blasts from Freddie Freeman and Kiké Hernandez, who just so happened to put an end to Chris Sale’s historic start in the contest.

Hernandez went yard first, recording a two-run blast off a changeup thrown down an in. The Braves’ 37-year-old left-hander left it hanging just a bit too much, and Hernandez got a hold of it.

In the very next at-bat, Freeman launched a solo shot to deep right field, giving the Dodgers a quick 3-0 lead. It was a no-doubt home run, and the second of the postseason for the 17-year veteran.

Sale was off to a remarkable start, too. So much so that he etched his name into the MLB Playoff history books, according to insider Sarah Langs. The 2024 Cy Young Award winner had six strikeouts through the first two innings. He is just the eighth player in league history to achieve that feat in the playoffs.

“Chris Sale! 8th pitcher in postseason history with 6 strikeouts in the first 2 innings of a game,” Langs reported. “First since 2023 Zack Wheeler NLDS G2. Second in Braves franchise history (Mike Hampton). Oldest on the list.”

The early portion of Game 3 was a pitcher’s duel, as neither team could get anything going offensively. But with the Dodgers finally breaking that streak, the Braves will have to overcome a deficit against one of the best pitchers in baseball: Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
