Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was pulled away from Liverpool supporters by club staff following their 3-0 victory at Anfield. The Italian shot-stopper appeared to become embroiled in a heated exchange with a fan in the tunnel area before being escorted toward the locker rooms.

The incident unfolded at full-time after Enzo Maresca's side exploited a numerical advantage to dismantle the hosts. It was a high-intensity Premier League clash, with City playing their first fixture since the independent commission delivered its guilty verdict on their financial violations.

Video footage circulating on social media shows Donnarumma making his way through the tunnel, smiling toward remaining fans, while chants of 'cheat' ring out, directed at City in response to the ruling handed down following their lengthy legal battle with the top flight, as per The Mirror.

City's guilty verdict stoked the fury at Anfield and throughout the surrounding area, with the news breaking during the international break. The fallout has left supporters across the country outraged at the perceived lack of sporting integrity, with the Premier League characterizing the club as having submitted 'sham' contracts.

The artificial inflation of commercial agreements is widely considered to have distorted the competitive landscape, affording Maresca and his predecessors between 2009 and 2018 an unfair edge over their rivals.

This prompted Liverpool supporters to chant 'cheats' at the City players and display banners suggesting that potential sporting sanctions could result in their rivals being stripped of their honors during the nine-year period.

Liverpool capitalized on their boisterous crowd and appeared to be gaining the advantage against City. However, Ryan Gravenberch's contentious red card handed the visitors the momentum, and they seized it.

Erling Haaland struck home the opener shortly after Liverpool went down to 10 men. In the closing moments, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki added shine to a memorable victory for the club at Anfield.

Maresca commended the solidarity of his players and hailed the triumph as one for everyone connected with the club. He said: "Ferran (Soriano) was there, Hugo (Viana) was there. We were all together. For the importance of the game, Liverpool away, I think it's a good idea for the club to be all together. It's togetherness that in this moment we need.

"It was not easy for the players after the past two or three weeks, but I think they handled the situation very well. I said during the week, we need to learn how to deal with the outside noise.

"Because of the situation, the noise will always be there so we need to learn how to deal with it. At the same time, we need try to make our noise by winning games like we did today. At the end of the game, it was our fans singing so the noise was from us and not from the Liverpool fans.

"To win at Anfield is a great result, for sure. In this moment, all of the organization needs this kind of a win, so it's good for us as a coaching staff, it's good for the players, it's good for the fans. This kind of a win is good for the whole club."
