Matthew McConaughey’s message to Texas after win over Ole Miss
After the hard-fought win was secured, McConaughey shared a message with the Longhorns on social media.
“Way to show who you are, Longhorns. And fans? Way to ignite us. One take. Hook em.”
The message is a callback to a letter he had written and shared to fans of the Longhorns, criticising the recent complacency as a fanbase that has led to recent losses while urging them to root for the team harder now than ever before to ignite their spark.
The message seemed to have made its way into the fanbase, who were electric in their support for the Longhorns in a resilient win after almost choking away a 21-point first-half lead.
McConaughey has deep ties to the Longhorns as an alumnus, who was a Delta Tau Delta member as a student, a longtime Austin resident, and has been known for years as one of the program’s most visible superfans.
McConaughey has the unofficial title of ‘Minister of Culture’ for Texas Athletics and has served as a Professor of Practice at the college since 2019.
Not only is McConaughey seen attending games in the stands, but he is also often seen on the sidelines at games and practices, renowned for giving motivational speeches.
Despite the second-half wobbles, the Longhorns left with the win, which is what matters at the end of the day. The Longhorns snapped a two-game losing streak and injected their program with confidence to keep a run to the college football playoffs alive.
