Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looks set to play the third T20I against New Zealand in Wellington, and the main question is where India will fit the 15-year-old in their batting order.
The teenager is still fighting to secure a regular place in the T20I side, because the team management continues to trust its proven opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.

Abhishek’s spot has never really been a topic of debate, but Samson has lost his place to the youngster on more than one occasion due to inconsistency.

Ishan Kishan couldn’t take part in the second match against the Blackcaps because of a low-grade right adductor strain, and he is set to miss the third contest as well.
His absence meant India picked Sooryavanshi in the playing XI for the second game, although they sent him in at number three instead of handing him an opening slot. The left-hander lasted only eight deliveries, and he scored four runs before he found the fielder at extra cover.

In his last outing, Nathan Smith dismissed the teenage debutant for four in the seventh over, and the bowler’s plan worked exactly as he’d hoped.
Smith banged the ball into the pitch on a testing back-of-a-length line outside off stump, which left the batter short of room to swing his arms. Keen to force the issue, Sooryavanshi tried to slash the delivery over the infield on the off side, but he couldn’t get under the bounce.
The mistimed shot flew flat towards extra cover, where Daryl Mitchell took a clean catch.
