Notre Dame must REALLY want 4-Star linebacker Amarri Irvin

· Yahoo Sports

Marcus Freeman has been an incredible recruiter for the Fighting Irish ever since he stepped onto Notre Dame’s campus. In fact, the entire football recruiting operation at Notre Dame is on an entirely different level than what we have seen in the past. One of the many reasons for all of this is because of the expectations and guidelines Freeman has put in place for himself, his staff, and the recruits as well.

So… it is a little bit strange that 4-Star linebacker Amarri Irvin is still committed to Notre Dame’s 2027 recruiting class. One of the rules/expectations Freeman has had in place is a “no visiting other schools while committed” policy. Typically, if a player wants to visit other schools, he needs to decommit from Notre Dame.

But that didn’t happen this past weekend.

Amarri Irvin, who is a Spartan legacy, took an official visit to East Lansing to check out Pat Fitzgerald and the Michigan State football program.

A Notre Dame commit took an official visit to another school, and yet he’s still committed to the Irish. Irvin was then expected to take several more official visits to other schools in the coming weeks, including an SEC school this weekend. After Notre Dame reached out to Irvin, the visit to the SEC school for this upcoming weekend was cancelled — although it’s unclear if he is reigning in any other plans to look around.

SO… Marcus Freeman must really want Amarri Irvin in this class. Obviously, recruiting is recruiting, and not every recruitment is the same — but this choice to sidestep your own policy puts Irvin’s importance to this class front and center.

We’ll just have to sit back and see how long this lasts.
