It was the close of the 2026 regular season and could be the last time we see baseball in its current form. The playoffs are on the horizon and something even more daunting awaits players, coaches, owners and fans: a probable strike.

If you ask anyone in the last few years they will say that a labor strike is about to happen between the owners and the MLB player’s union. This season, everyone was looking for a positive sign, but no relief has come with most in the media believing that we’re going to be without MLB games for at least part of next year.
With a chance there’s no baseball to look forward to next March, fans should take in as much playoff baseball as possible.
The MLB regular season is a slog; lasting 162 games spanning from March to almost October, it is a huge commitment for fans and everyone around.
As hard as it could be for some fans to get through a full season, the playoffs make it worth it. The pop of a crowd behind the home team is one of the greatest things a fan can experience.
It’s hard to get excited to nearly 200 regular-season games, but the energy is undeniable once the postseason starts.
These playoff starts are interesting with the back-to-back reining champion Los Angeles Dodgers, not the No. 1 seed, and won’t have home field advantage throughout the game with the small market Milwaukee Brewers taking that crown.
With much of the chatter surrounding a potential strike around the Dodgers and their dominance due to payroll, two small markets took the top spot. Along with the Brewers, the Tampa Bay Rays — one of the smaller payrolls in the league — took the top seed in the American League.
MLB playoffs are the biggest gamble of any major sport. Teams can get hot and go on a wild run to take a title no one expected.
With a chance that we don’t get an MLB season or we get a shortened season, don’t take this year’s playoffs for granted. Even though it’s football season and I know that’s king in Oklahoma, take a couple of hours to watch a sport that might leave the masses behind next summer.
