The Los Angeles Lakers, on Tuesday night, suited up for their second preseason game against a fellow California-based team, this time against the Golden State Warriors. Coming off a 127-103 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday, with Luka Doncic scorching the nets to the tune of 21 points in 16 minutes of play, the Lakers held out most of their key players against the Warriors, including Doncic and Austin Reaves, to open up opportunities for their other players.

One unsung player who drew the start for the Lakers on Tuesday was Adou Thiero, the 36th overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft. Thiero is fighting for a spot in the team’s regular rotation, and he sure made his case by pulling off the team’s biggest highlight in what was an otherwise difficult contest against a Warriors team that had Stephen Curry active on the night.

The Lakers, down by 18 in the second quarter (61-43), went out in transition, with Thiero leaking out ahead of the Warriors’ defense. Thiero caught the ball in stride, and he had De’Anthony Melton and Yaxel Lendeborg chasing him. This did not faze him whatsoever. The 22-year-old went up for a bonkers off-hand Showtime dunk, throwing it down on both defenders for an and-one opportunity.

It looked as though Thiero leapt off of a trampoline, leaving Lendeborg no chance on the late contest at the rim. It was a ferocious slam that showcased the Lakers forward’s incredible athleticism, which, if harnessed correctly, could make him an impactful two-way player.

At this point, the 22-year-old’s overall game still appears to be raw. In 17 minutes of play on the night, Thiero put up just seven points on 3-6 shooting, adding four rebounds and nothing else.

He will have to do more, particularly on the glass and on defense, to nail down a rotation spot. But plays like the one he pulled off on Tuesday should at least help bring more notice to his burgeoning game.
